Most old cordless phones systems have a NiCad (which is short for nickel cadmium) battery. Now these batteries used to be state of the art because they can develop memory, however the main disadvantage is that a NiCad battery charge will now be inferior compared to when it was new.

The newer batteries you find in systems are known as NiMH batteries. These variety are a lot more reliable and are also very good for the environment and therefore having such batteries is indeed doing your bit and being ‘green’.

The best tip, is that if you have a phone system which uses NiCad batteries then it may be time to invest in a new phone system because the charge life will continue to deteriorate and will eventually become a hassle. You may think that this may be expensive however believe it or not, in today’s current competitive markets it may be cheaper to buy yourself a cheap system.

Final tip, if you are looking to replace your cordless phone batteries then know that off brand batteries function just as well as the branded batteries for your system.
